Acne
Acne is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the sebaceous glands characterised by inflammation, blackheads, whiteheads, macules, papules, pustules and cysts and often leads to scarring.
Skin Conditions
The first chain of events that usually lead to acne, especially acne on the face, are in puberty when the body starts to produce testosterone, which then stimulates the sebaceous glands to produce excess sebum that is then trapped in the hair follicle. Dead cells are attached to this sticky substance and bacteria then forms, therefore the cells cannot exfoliate and a hard mass is then produced within in the skin. Over 40% of females will have acne during some part for their life and over 35% of males will be affected.
Contributing & aggravating Factors

Hormonal imbalances
-
Stress
Physical, emotional or job-related.
-
Skin Bacteria
Abnormality in the bacteria (Propionibacterium) of the skin, which can produce inflammation
-
Cell turnover
Abnormality in cell turnover, resulting in blockages deep down in hair shafts and oil glands
Treatment
Acne is graded from 1 to 4 depending on the severity or be diagnosed either INFLAMED or NON-INFLAMED. Basically, in acne skin, the problem is that the skin is not functioning properly. Michaela basis her acne treatments around DMK enzyme therapy. She uses a combined approach bringing in other treatment modalities.
You will have an individual treatment programme worked out for your specific skin acne concerns. Each treatment prescribed will change from session to session as the skin is changing. Alkaline Wash is sometimes combined with Enzyme therapy (suitable for inflamed cystic acne) to swell, soften and dissolve excess cell build-up, releasing the inflammation and impaction killing the P Acne bacteria. Alkaline wash plus enzyme masque #1 will dislodge the underlying manifestation and rebuild the structure and function of the skin simultaneously.
Variations of acids, alkaline, phenols and enzymes are incorporated within your treatment programme. Nano current, LED & IPL are also added in at various stages of treatment. (Skin needling along with mesotherapy or skin boosters may be used once acne is in remission to perfect results).
All treatments will include a home prescription, which must be strictly adhered to, to obtain the best results possible.
Treatments can range from a course of six upwards, depending on the severity of the condition.
What our clients say...
Vicky Parkes Hereford“I have been troubled with my skin since my early teenage years where I suffered severe acne on my face, back and chest. I tried multiple ‘over the counter’ remedies before finding the courage to seek help from my Doctor. Initially I was prescribed topical lotions and although this helped a little I was still plagued with acne well into my 40’s. Eventually the Doctor prescribed a course of antibiotics which helped enormously, one course led to another and I ended up being on antibiotics for 8 years but I was increasingly aware that long term antibiotics was not a good solution, particularly to my overall health.
This is when I started to seek help from Michaela at Michaela Turner Skin Clinic. Michaela instantly put me at ease in order to discuss my skin condition, I was assessed with great care, empathy, professionalism and above all expert knowledge. At this point I agreed to stop taking any further antibiotics and we agreed upon a course of treatment to help the health of my skin and what a turn point this turned out to be. Within a few months I noticed a huge improvement in my skin, not only the appearance, but in the texture, overall feel of my skin and this resulted in giving me my confidence back for which I cannot thank Michaela enough.
I am now in my early 60’s and I can honestly say that my skin has never been or felt so good. I am frequently paid compliments about my beautiful glowing skin and often asked what my secret is - naturally, I am absolutely thrilled!”
