Advanced Vascular Assessment

Our advanced vascular assessment of the lower limb serve as a simple yet important health check for your legs, helping to identify circulation issues and areas that may require referral to your GP for further investigation.

Introduction

Understand your circulatory status

Understanding your circulatory status is crucial as peripheral arterial disease and poor circulation in the lower limbs can cause issues like leg pain, slow-healing wounds, and discomfort. By understanding your circulatory status, you can actively safeguard your feet and limbs while pinpointing any areas that may necessitate preventative treatment or vascular intervention. Addressing these concerns early can help keep your legs healthy, lowering any risk of further complications.

An advanced assessment will include the use of a Doppler ultrasound, where we will listen to the blood flow in your lower limbs, providing insights into the overall circulation in your legs. Additionally, we may conduct an Ankle Brachial Pressure Index (ABPI) and Toe Brachial Index (TBI) test, which are non-invasive, painless assessments combining Doppler ultrasound and a manual blood pressure cuff. We can use this to determine the presence of peripheral arterial disease in the lower extremities. A poor ABPI /TBI result may indicate the need for further support, including additional investigations or vascular intervention, which we will assist you in obtaining via your GP.
